A Message to the Bearcat Community
Portrait of Tommy Elder, Assistant Principal & Athletic Director, with a school mascot logo.As we begin another exciting year of WF West Athletics, I want to share some thoughts on the values that guide our programs. At the heart of what we do, there are two themes that define who we are on and off the field: Respect and Integrity. These values are what make Bearcat Athletics a source of pride for our staff, students and the entire Chehalis community.

Respect
Our parents set the tone. At WF West, respect begins in the stands and extends to the field by modeling positive support, cheering with pride for every Bearcat, and showing grace to officials,
opponents, and other families. When our community demonstrates this kind of sportsmanship, it creates an exciting atmosphere that others envy.

Our coaches carry that standard forward by treating athletes with fairness and dignity while leading with composure and passion. They demonstrate professionalism even in challenging moments, reminding everyone that how we conduct ourselves matters just as much as the outcome of the game.

Our players bring respect to life by honoring the game itself—encouraging teammates, recognizing opponents, and showing class in both victory and defeat. They set the example for
younger students and future Bearcats, showing what it means to wear that WF West Bearcat jersey and represent Chehalis with pride.

Integrity
Our parents show integrity by supporting the balance between academics and athletics, encouraging students to follow through on commitments, and demonstrating honesty in every interaction. Their example reminds our athletes that doing the right thing is more important than winning at any cost.

Our coaches lead with integrity by holding themselves and their athletes accountable to high standards. They teach that responsibility, discipline, and transparency are cornerstones of both sports and life. When others watch how our coaches lead, they see the true meaning of leadership.

Our players live with integrity by giving their best effort in the classroom, on the field, and in the community. They take responsibility for their choices, play within the rules, and compete
with passion. They show us all that success without integrity is not success at all.

Closing Thoughts
At WF West, athletics is more than competition—it’s an opportunity to shape young people into leaders who carry respect and integrity with them long after high school. I am grateful for the
role each of you plays in supporting this vision.

Together, we will continue building a culture where Bearcat Athletics reflects the very best of Chehalis.
